Power Tool Testing

Course Aim

This course is to develop knowledge and skills required to competently conduct a service safety inspection and testing of single phase electrical equipment with a voltage rating up to and including 250 volts.

Duration

  • 8 hours

Content

  • Effects of an electric current
  • Visual inspection of Electrical Equipment
  • Electrical testing of Electrical Equipment

During the late 1980’s a concern was raised by electrical and statutory authorities in a number of Australian states at the high number of electrical accidents of both a fatal and non fatal type caused by portable electrical equipment and their associated flexible cords and accessories.

These accidents were occurring in industrial commercial premises, construction and demolition sites and in domestic premises e.g., private homes.

As a result of the concerns Standards Australia formed a committee of representatives from interested organisations to formulate a standard which, if implemented, would help to ensure that electrical equipment was safer to use when used for its intended purpose.
