Whilst it is important to ensure you get thorough training in the course of your choice, there is no need for you to repeat topics that you have previously studied or that you can prove competence in, through relevant experience.
Recognition of this crediting process can come in 3 variations; Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Transfer (CT) and Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC). These are distinguished by the way they relate to learning achieved through formal training and learning achieved outside the formal education system. A brief outline is as below:
-
RPL is a process that assesses the individual's previous learning experience to determine whether they have covered any of the required learning outcomes in the course they are currently undertaking.
-
Credit transfer assesses any course, subject, modules or unit of competence that the individual has previously studied and the course he/she is looking to gain credit for, to determine its relevance to the required learning outcomes.
-
RCC is an assessment process that looks at the individual's formal learning where an individual has successfully completed the requirements for a module or unit of competence and is now required to be assessed to ensure that the competency is has been maintained.
If you feel that you may be eligible to receive credit for some part of your course please contact the Student Services Manager, Peter Jolley to make an appointment to discuss your training arrangements.
