If you are currently overseas and thinking of immigrating to Australia to work as an Electrician, there is a number of steps you will need to take. In the first instance you will need to contact Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). It is their job to assess your current qualification for your Australian VISA application, then again for your eligibility to gain skills recognition for your Licence. Please note you will need to submit your paperwork seperately in each of these instances.
The Licensing body that will issue your ‘A’ class Electrical Licence is the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs. This organisation will ask for your Certificate from the TRA and for a Certificate from an Australian Training Organisation indicating that you have undertaken a course to update your knowledge to the current Australian standards. This is where PEER VEET is able to assist. The course you require is Wiring Rules AS/NZS 3000:2007.
Please be aware that both training and Electrical licensing in Australia is legislated by the Government in each State. For this reason if you are looking to gain a Licence outside South Australia you will need to take the Statement from PEER VEET to a training organistion in your state to have it recognised by the Licensing Board.
If you have any questions please contact either PEER VEET or either of the organisations below.
