Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)

Apprentice Funding - Pre-Requisites

If you are an eligible Apprentice or a person who has paid training costs on an eligible Apprentice's behalf, you can claim 'Tuition Incentive Funding'.

'Tuition Incentive Funding' is paid to offset training costs charged by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), or named association.

The Board of the CITB has allocated up to $1,600.00, over the first three years of the Contract of Training for Tuition Funding, as from 1st of July 2007.

One claim per year and all claims must be lodged and processed before 30th of June of the following year.

Tuition Funding includes:

  • Enrolment fees,
  • Service fees,
  • Materials fees directly relating to the course of instruction, paid to the RTO,
  • Specified approved codes and standards integral to the course:
    • Plumbing and Gas Codes
    • Electrical Code

Claims will NOT be accepted for TOOLS, CLOTHING or TRANSPORTATION costs.

Note that tuition funding is payable once per year for each Apprentice/Trainee, and is payable only after the Apprentice/Trainee has completed their probation period.

Before you proceed please check that you have the following details ready:

  • Apprentices' CITB number
  • Apprentices Contract of Training number and start date
  • Receipt details for the tuition paid for
  • Details of the bank account you would like the funding to be paid into

Eligibility

An eligible Apprentice is one who is undertaking training in one of the following vocations:

  • Certificate 2 in Civil Construction
  • Certificate 3 in Bricklaying/Blocklaying
  • Certificate 3 in Carpentry
  • Certificate 3 in Civil Construction
  • Certificate 3 in Civil Construction (Plant Operations)
  • Certificate 3 in Civil Construction (Plant)
  • Certificate 3 in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance)
  • Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology - Building Services
  • Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology Data Communications
  • Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology Systems - Electrician
  • Certificate 3 in Fire Protection
  • Certificate 3 in Furnishing (Glass & Glazing)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Bricklaying/Blocklaying)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Carpentry - Framework/Formwork/Finishing)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Painting and Decorating)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Roof Tiling)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Solid Plastering)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Wall & Ceiling Lining)
  • Certificate 3 in General Construction (Wall & Floor Tiling)
  • Certificate 3 in Glass and Glazing
  • Certificate 3 in Joinery
  • Certificate 3 in Off-site Construction (Joinery/Timber/Aluminium/Glass)
  • Certificate 3 in Off-site Construction (Shop Fitting)
  • Certificate 3 in Off-site Construction (Stairs)
  • Certificate 3 in Painting and Decorating
  • Certificate 3 in Plumbing
  • Certificate 3 in Roof Plumbing
  • Certificate 3 in Roof Tiling
  • Certificate 3 in Solid Plastering
  • Certificate 3 in Sprinkler Pipe Fitting
  • Certificate 3 in Wall & Ceiling Lining
  • Certificate 3 in Wall & Floor Tiling
  • Certificate 2 in Civil Construction
  • Certificate 3 in Roof Plumbing
  • Certificate in Plumbing (Basic Trade)

and who works in the SA building and construction industry for a minimum of 80% of their time.

Progressive Completions Funding

Progressive Completions Funding can be claimed upon the completion of each year of an Apprenticeship.

Note that the following rules apply to Completions Funding claims:

  1. The employer and apprentice must both be registered with the CITB.
  2. The Apprentice must have completed a full year (adjusted for any periods of suspension etc).
  3. Only one Completions Funding claim per Apprentice per year is allowed.
  4. Confirmation of Final and/or Early Completions is required, by downloading the Completions Funding Form.  Enter all required data on the manual claim form and forward to the CITB together with "Notification of Completion" from Traineeship and Apprenticeship Services (TAS)
  5. The final Completions Funding claim of an Apprenticeship will only be paid after receipt of TAS confirmation that all requirements of the Apprenticeship have been completed.
