What does a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic Do?

The refrigeration and air conditioning industry covers a wide range of services to the public and corporate sector, including the design, installation, commisioning and maintenance of equipment in the following areas:

  • Diagnosing of faults and the repairs to refrigeration equipment
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Responding to industry breakdowns
  • Air Conditioning Systems
  • Industrial, commercial and domestic refrigeration
  • Decommissioning and commissioning of refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • Electrical controls and equipment

Duration - This is a 4 year apprenticeship

A refrigeration and air conditioning trade is your ticket to working with the latest in computer technology, software, control systems, building automation and electronic components and appliances.

Not only is technology in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry changing, the type of work you do and where you do it can also be different from day-to-day.

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanics are currently among the highest paid tradespeople.  Many Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanics who run their own business earn more money than Business Executives and University Graduates.

From the very first day of your Apprenticeship you will earn a wage, which increases each year until you are qualified.

Once you finish a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprenticeship there is no limit to where your career can go.  You may end up managing projects and teams of people, doing further study in management or business or using your trade as the basis for University or further education.  Once you are qualified as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic you can work anywhere in South Australia.

You need to be technically minded, interested in how things work and willing to explore and understand the mechanics of the things around you.  You also need to be physically fit, have good math skills and normal colour vision.  If you think you’ve got what it takes to work in the refrigeration & air conditioning industry then you’ll be part of a trade that prides itself on quality.

PEER VEET is one of the largest employers of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Apprentices in the Building and Construction Industry in South Australia and has been operating since 1986, so we know the industry.

We can place you into a wide range of work sites to give you the best training and experience possible and also give you supplementary training and assistance with your Apprenticeship from your first year until you finish.

PEER VEET assists you with toolbox and tools, equipment, safety gear, uniforms and everything you need to start your career in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

PEER VEET monitors all your training, both on and off-the-job, to make sure you learn everything you need to know.  All our Apprentices are also supported and mentored by our dedicated Recruitment and Training Coordinators.
