There are suggested pathways into Apprenticeships that PEER VEET can guide you on. Detailed below are options available through PEER VEET that may enhance your eligibility to be considered for an apprenticeship with us.
Pre-Apprenticeship
PEER VEET has developed insightful skill enhancement Pre-Apprenticeship Programs for those looking to get a head start in a specialised building and construction trade. Programs are specific to Plumbing, Electrical, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and Voice & Data Communications.
Rosemary Ampt completed an Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship program and went on to commence an Electrical Apprenticeship with PEER VEET. Rosemary accredits the program; " By doing the Pre Apprenticeship program I discovered what I’ll be doing as a future electrician and learnt about all the safety aspects and possible hazards of the job".
Liam Casey found the Pre-Apprenticeship program "Gave me the basic skills so that when I got out on the job site I didn’t feel like a complete novice". Liam completed his Electrical Apprenticeship with PEER VEET and accredits the Pre-Apprenticeship for helping him gain employment.
About the Program:
- 6 weeks of Nationally Accredited Training.
- 2 weeks work experience placement.
- Funded program therefore NO FEES (students only required to supply their own safety boots for work experience placement).
- Introduction to vocational skills, general numeracy and literacy, communication and basic trade skills.
- Enhanced opportunities for employment as an Australian Apprentice.
Students undertake nationally recognised modules, learning about safety awareness, maths for industry, first aid, hand skill development, trade terminology and benefit from work experience placements with PEER VEET host employers. Companies hosting work experience students have then gone on to host successful participants employed into Apprenticeships. Pre-Apprenticeship progrms offers students the chance to "try a trade" before committing to a Contract of Training. The benefits to students include making them prepared for the workforce; ready to work from day one of employment.
How to Apply for A Pre-Apprenticeship Program:
- A covering letter indicating interest in the program.
- A copy of your Resume outlining your education and any work experience.
The pre-apprenticeship training helps participants gain better skills and improves their chances of obtaining an Apprenticeship or finding work. It provides training, support and assistance to participants to prepare them for work, including counselling on career choices, training in general work skills and habits and supported work experience.
The pre-vocational training is ideal for people choosing a career path to gain experience in the trade fields, and also for people who have completed school seeking training, or perhaps even a career change.
